1.1 Background of the Study
Science fiction (sci-fi) films have historically inspired technological advancements and shaped aspirations toward innovation. These films often depict futuristic technologies, pushing the boundaries of imagination and inspiring viewers to explore possibilities in science and technology (Okeke & Musa, 2024). In Minna South Local Government Area, Niger State, the growing consumption of sci-fi films coincides with increased interest in technology, particularly among youths. This study investigates the influence of sci-fi films on technological aspirations, focusing on how these films shape perceptions and career interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the popularity of sci-fi films in Nigeria, their impact on technological aspirations remains underexplored, particularly in regions like Minna South, where technological innovation is essential for development. While sci-fi films may inspire interest in technology, the extent of their influence on youths' aspirations and career choices in this area has not been adequately studied (Ibrahim & Alhassan, 2023). This research addresses this gap by exploring the relationship between sci-fi film consumption and technological aspirations in Minna South.
